Jacob Hanson places 7th in the 200 Backstroke at NCAA!

Yet another very impressive performance by Jacob Hanson made us all proud to be EMU supporters!  Hanson took out his race more than 1/2 second faster than his morning swim, an indication of how much he wanted a great time!  He touched in 1:42.32, about 2 tenths off his mark in the prelims.  His 7th place finish was a shining moment in EMU swimming history!

Many great swimmers have represented EMU, fewer have had the privilage of attending the NCAA meet and even less have reached the top 8 in the country.  Jacob Hanson, your performances today make EMU supporters proud!

Hanson has a great morning swim! Seeded 6th going into finals!

Jacob Hanson takes 33rd in the 200IM

After a long trip to Seattle from Ypsilanti and a quick repeat taper coming off some fantastic swims at the 2012 Mid American Conference Championship, Jacob Hanson had a solid 200IM at his first ever NCAA meet! Hanson was just off his seed time of 1:45.38 with a finish of 1:46.97. Jacob still has the 100 Back tomorrow and the 200 Back on Saturday! Great job so far Jacob!

It was a very odd day 2 of the 2011-2012 MAC Championship Meet.  Noah Moran sent out the following update:

Due to a short severe weather event, the morning session was deemed a timed final event. There are a lot of positives and negatives for everyone. First time this has happened as far as Coach Linn is aware (that is along time). We are at the hotel and will try to get a little more rest and have a good meal. Scores should be:

UPDATE!

Miami fixed their live results and the men are in 1st place after day one!  We lead SIU by 20 points, we couldn't have done it without an amazing performance from the divers and a great relay at the end of the night.  It will be a tough meet to win, we need to hold on to the lead!  GO EMU!

A strong first day for the EMU Men!

It was a very exciting first day.  This evenings finals started with a 4th place finish in the 200y Free Relay.  The team of Ivry (20.68), Hanson, Moore and Everson hit the wall in a 1:21.27.  All great swims!  Next up was a great breakout swim from freshman Franco Petrone in the 500 Free with a time of 4:24.34 to take 1st place!  Petrone's time ranks as the 3rd fastest time in EMU history!  Jacob Hanson bounced back from his great relay swim to demolish his Varsity record in the 200IM by over 3 seconds with a blazing fast 1:45.38, a time which has a great chance of earning him a trip to the Division 1 NCAA Championships!  The 50 Free was very competitive this year with every top 16 swimmer in the 19 or 20 second range.  Gus Everson took 13th in finals while dropping 3 tenths from prelims with a 20.64 and Oded Ivry took 14th with a 20.74, just slightly off his morning swim of 20.67. The divers straight tore it up, a trend that EMU supporters have come to expect based on the last few years of performances! Yet we're always mindful not to take their amazing performances for granted!  The divers took 1st, 4th, 5th, 8th, 15th and 16th with Jeff Craig winning the event!  The final race of the evening was the 400 Medley Relay... a real nail biter!  Jacob Hanson shattered the pool, meet, varsity and conference record in the 100y Backstroke with a 47.06!  This time will almost certainly make the NCAA meet!  Great splits from Esentan and Kinross as well as our anchor Everson.  They just barely took 2nd to Buffalo who had a very strong butterfly and freestyle leg.  Fantastic splits by all our EMU guys!

Miami University did a great job (mostly) on the streaming video yet dropped the ball on the live results at the end of Day 1 during the diving.  No updated results are available for the last 2 events or the team scores through the last event.  I believe the men are in 1st place as a team but I can't confirm.  Regardless, we're either 1st or 2nd!  A strong first day for EMU!

Men's Team Gearing up for 2011-2012 MAC meet!
